Powerball Winning Numbers:
Powerball is one of the largest lotteries. Powerball is sold in 44 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The drawing is held every Wednesday and Saturday. In order to play the Powerball lottery you have to choose 5 numbers from 1-69 for the white balls and one number from 1-26 for the red Powerball. Powerball tickets are only sold by a retailer authorized to sell Powerball tickets. When you purchase a lottery ticket you pick winning lottery numbers or you have the computer pick winning lottery numbers for you.
Quick Pick or Pick your Own Numbers?
You can either let a computer pick a number at random by choosing “Quick Pick” or you can select your own numbers. I am guilty of choosing “Quick Pick” for most of the times that I played the lottery. There is nothing
wrong with having the computer pick. I have decided for now to try and pick my own numbers. I read an article about Richard Lustig winning the lottery 7 times. He says pick your own numbers and stick to it.
So I am picking my own numbers and sticking to it for now. I will first look at the past results and find a good set of hot numbers and then play those numbers for a long period of time.
Past Powerball Winning Numbers
I will need to look at past results. Searching the internet there are many sites that post the past winning numbers. Many people are playing the lottery. If you are playing the lottery you want to know the winning numbers to see if you have won.
How to Pick a Winning Lottery Number
I do not hold the theory that each ball has the same chance on winning. If it was a computer that selected a random number then I might agree that each number has the same chance of winning. But we are talking about balls that were made by a machine. Each ball may be ever so slightly different than the next ball even though humans may try to make them all the same. I do not believe in using lucky numbers from a dream, birth dates, or horoscope to come up with numbers. I think some balls will win more than others. Maybe it is because the ball is on top. Maybe is because it is on bottom. Maybe a ball is a little lighter or heavier than others. Maybe there is more ink on the ball because of the number on the ball. Maybe it is just dumb luck that one ball is picked more than others. Whatever it is I think there is some order to the madness and not all numbers have the same chances on winning. I feel I will increase my odds by picking numbers that come up more often rather than numbers that do not come up that often. So to come up with my Powerball number I need to look at the history of the numbers that have won and try to make an educated prediction. Believe me I know the smartest minds and fastest computers cannot predict the lottery results. I just want to increase my odds on winning.
Choosing the Numbers
When I looked at websites that had past results I liked the site: www.powerball-megamillions.com The site listed had a frequency chart of white ball numbers that won for the past 20, 50, and 100 draws. It also has a frequency chart of Powerball numbers that won for the past 20,50, and 100 draws. The interesting thing is that the hot numbers would change based on how many past draws you were selecting. When I focused on the rankings of the top five balls I found some interesting data. For example on the data today the top white ball on the frequency chart for 20 draws is: ball 66 with 6 hits. Then next there is ball 32 with 4 hits. Then there are 8 balls with 3 hits. The 9 balls are: 1, 2, 6, 10, 16, 17, 23, and 25. When you select 50 draws there are 4 balls at the top position. These are 6, 21, 32, and 66 with 7 hits. Then there are 3 balls with 6 hits. The balls are: 2, 8, and 25. Then when you select 100 draws the top ball is 7 with 12 hits. Tied for 2-4 is 21, 27, and 32 with 11 hits. Then there are 5 balls with 10 hits. These balls are: 1, 6, 43, 45, and 56. Shown below is the data that I found. The balls that show up on all three of the frequency lists are: 6 and 32. These 2 numbers are definitely numbers that I will choose.
This type of list and observation can also be done for the Powerball numbers. The site also gives 10 smart pick numbers based on hot numbers and overdue numbers. So finding a hot number depends on the number of past draws that you use. If you are only looking at the past 1 drawings then then the numbers picked would be your hot numbers. I have never heard of the lottery number being the same as a previous result. Maybe it has happened before but never twice in a row. If it did happen, people would think that the game was fixed and there would be an investigation. Even though mathematically it is possible. If you looked at the last 20, 50, 100, or all the draws then the hot numbers will be different. I would never pick the exact same same lottery numbers as a past winner. For now I will use the data from this site to pick my numbers until I come up with my own system.
The final numbers
Picking numbers will not be easy. Coming up with a system will not be easy. For now I will pick numbers, purchase tickets, let everybody know what the numbers are, and pray that we win the lottery.
